Wii U's Failure Experience Has Made The Success Of Nintendo Switch

- Nov 18, 2019-

On November 18, 2012, the Nintendo game console Wii U was officially released.

Wii U is a new generation of home consoles launched by Nintendo in 2012. It is the successor of Wii and its name is also "We & You". The Wii U features a 1080P HD output and a new touch screen controller for a two-in-one console. Wii U was named one of the top 10 technology products of 2012 by Time magazine, ranking second only to the top iPhone 5.

Unfortunately, these highlights did not bring Wii U commercial success. One of the reasons is that Nintendo does not convey the concept of Wii U two-in-one very well. Another important reason is the lack of third-party games. In November 2016, Nintendo announced that Wii U was discontinued, absorbing the Wii U's failure experience and transferring development resources to its successor host switch. After the launch of the Switch, it was a great success. The former Nintendo North America President Reggie once said: "The failure experience of the Wii U has made the success of the Nintendo Switch."
